Do you have to know how to cut, braid, or color hair before you start school?

No, not at all!

We spend the first 8 weeks of school training our students in the classroom on techniques and skills using their mannequins. We start right away with hands on training so you know what to expect when begin taking clients after the first 360 hours of school!

And, your first week of clients will be open to your friends and family to perform the services you have learned.  This will allow you to gain confidence in your skills.

What is the difference between a 1500 hour program and an 1800 program?

The difference between a 1500 hour program is that is allows you to enter the work for earlier.
The final 300 hours of every cosmetology program is essentially performing services on non-paying clientele.

Josef’s has improved the efficacy of our program to accommodate the change & this has allowed our students to actually perform more services on clients during their time at school.

Can you still work part time and go to school?

Yes, many students have part-time jobs while they attend school.

Because Josef’s offers is committed to offering full-time programs, our students receive jobs that offer shifts from 4:30pm-late, and weekends.

You are not required to come to school on Saturdays, but it is optional!  This will allow you to make sure you graduate on time!

Do you offer night or online classes?

Going to school can be a hardship for many, we know our students need to make the most of their time while they are investing in school, therefore, we offer an accelerated full-time program Monday-Friday with Saturdays being OPTIONAL

We work to get you out into the workforce as soon as possible!

Upon completion of the 1500 hours, do you get a license?

Once the 1500 hours are completed, students travel to Bismarck, ND to take the practical State Board of Cosmetology test.

Josef’s passing rate for this exam is consistently in the upper 90%.

We administer three mock exams throughout the year at 360 hours, 750, and 1350 hours to ensure our students are confident going into their final exam.

Is financial aid available?

Yes, we have financial aid available for those who qualify, both private and government programs. The government programs are based on need. The financial assistance programs are very flexible and can be tailored to your individual requirements.

What services can I provide as a Cosmetologist?

A Cosmetologist in North Dakota can provide all hair, skin & nail services.

Our curriculum includes extensive skin care treatments that will give you a leg up on those cosmetologists that do not learn these skills in school.

What are the requirements to enroll?

Students must be at least 17 years of age and have recieved their High School Diploma or GED.

Applicants must complete the application (available to print online) an submit the enrollment fee.

A copy of your Birth Certificate and High School Diploma/GED equivilant will also be required prior to starting

What is a day like at school?

8:45-9:00am – students clock in

9-9:45am- Theory class with the entire student body

10am-4pm- Depending on how many hours the student has will determine the rest of the day.

Students with 360 or less- will be in the basics classroom learning all techniques and theory on mannequins and classmates

360 hours + – Students will take clients under the supervision of  a licensed instructor

361-1500 hours + -Students will continue to perform services on clients focusing on business aspects and independence  as well as begin preparing for the national exams

How do you accommodate people coming out of town regards to housing & day care?

We understand that our students come to us during different stages of life.  Whether it be right out of High School or re entering the workforce after a period of time.

Just ask! We can help our students find the resources needed to relocate – even match them up with other students who may be looking for roommates.
